The complex was built on a 27 hectare (67 acre) site that was formerly an old textile factory, and its design combines modern and historical elements. The Manufaktura features unplastered red brick buildings that are characteristic of industrial architecture, including a five-storey spinning mill built in 1877-1878, which gives the complex its name.
The Manufaktura has a surface area of 270,000 m2, making it the second largest of its kind in Poland, behind only the Old Market Square in Kraków. Its large square boasts Europe's longest fountain at 300 meters, and visitors can explore the complex via trambuses.
In addition to the commercial area, which includes over 300 stores, restaurants, and other services, the Manufaktura also has a cultural center, entertainment center, and a restaurant complex. The complex is home to several museums, including a branch of The Museum of Art in Łódź, a science museum, a Factory Museum, and the Museum of the City of Łódź, which is located in the neighboring Izrael Poznański Palace.
