Therefore, the tributes he has received from his fellow citizens have not yet reached the level of tribute that his memory deserves. Several of his most popular songs, which have gained worldwide recognition, are dedicated to his land and sea, including "Bajo el cielo de Palma" (Under the Sky of Palma), "Un viejo hogar en la isla" (An Old Home on the Island), "Juntito al mar" (Close to the Sea), and "Palma Nova." Even the chorus of one of his island songs, "Paisaje lindo tiene Mallorca" (Beautiful Landscape Mallorca Has), served in the 1940s and 1950s to promote Mallorca abroad, especially among honeymooners.
This square must be one of the few that commemorates a person born near its location since Bonet de San Pedro was born in the neighborhood from which he took his artistic name. There are still neighbors who knew him and witnessed how proud this singer was to have been born in Puig de Sant Pere, at a time when fishing families were abundant in the area.
Pere Bonet Square is located beneath the stretch of wall known as Baluard de Sant Pere, a fortified area built by Mallorcan craftsmen in the second decade of the 15th century for the defense of the city. The former military barracks, which also served as a military prison for a time, is now a museum known as es Baluard. The square can be accessed from Porta de Santa Catalina and Sant Pere Street. At this point, there is a tower from the Arab domination period, currently closed to the public due to restoration work. It is hoped that its closure will not be extended.
It is one of the most charming and secluded squares in the city, although it is unknown to a large part of its population. On the other hand, both residents and tourists enjoy it. The section of the wall that partially obstructs the view at its lower part reminds one of the entrance to the basements of an ancient Roman circus, mainly due to the semicircular arches located in that lateral wall space.
