In 1917, when the Carmelite nun Alessandra di Rudini (who joined in 1911 as Marie de Jésus, previously the lover of the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio) became the abbess of the Carmelite convent in Paray-le-Monial, three foundations stemmed from there, including the first one in 1919: the Carmel Montmartre in Paris (18th district, Rue du Chevalier de la Barre No. 34). The sisters are still there today. The convent is known as Carmel de Montmartre. It had about 20 nuns in 2010.
